i woke up this morning.
red with hunger,
crimson with memories.
the hue burned my stomach until the only nutrient left was you.
the day progressed in orange.
caution waves throughout the pangs.
the flames crowded into a circle,
licking my skin all over to the first degree.
my bones were exposed,
but the warmth that followed extinguished the disaster.
in the end,
oranges were peeled with calloused thumbs
and it was easier to digest the future.
i feel green whenever i lay familiarity into sheets.
i swim through your iris,
because if you're all i see, i wish to be mutual.
an eye for an eye and a dream for a dream,
a morning to mourn the temporary displacement of my heart.
i belong in your eyes.
to be loved and to be scrutinized.
